Portuguese Custard Tarts

Delicious and creamy Portuguese custard tarts, a traditional dessert from Portugal.

Ingredients

  • 500g puff pastry
  • 500ml whole milk
  • 200g sugar
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F).
  2. In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon stick. Heat until almost boiling, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg yolks, stirring constantly.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into circles to fit a muffin tin.
  5. Place the pastry circles into the muffin tin, pressing gently to form a shell.
  6. Fill each pastry shell with the custard mixture.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is golden and the custard is set.
